TED APEL: CALL & RESONANCE
2013 prizewinner of the FETA Sound Art Prize selected by Master Judge Alvin Lucier, from over 80 submission from 5 countries in the Americans.
About Call and Resonance
Five very large test tubes are used to impart strong resonances on handmade sound making circuits in each tube. Each circuit independently alternates between recording sound and playing back its recording. The sounds recorded are a combination of the sounds produced by the other tubes, the ambient sounds of the space and the resonance of the tube. In this way, the combined soundfield is an emergent property of the five tubes, that is, each tube's sound is dependent on the contributions of the others.
